As part of its land acquisition policy, Zimbabwe's government would grant land in return for over 800 farms it has taken since 2000. It put aside $17.5 million in its 2019 budget, with another 380 million Zimbabwe dollars (US$21 million) set aside for the same purpose this year. According to the legislation, President Emmerson Mnangagwa's administration is compensating some of the displaced farmers with land.
