New Buses Terminal built under Phase2 of the Beitbridge Border Transformation almost ready to open to traffic on the first of June. The contractor is now fine-tuning the facility since the start of the test run last week.

The construction of a new modernisation project is nearing completion The fire station will address the perennial fire and emergencies rescue services deficiencies in the border town. The fire station an animal quaranteine, sewer oxidation,dam. A landfill, roads ,upgrading construction of 220 staff houses, and 11.4 megaliters water reservior are some of the out-of- port facilities under construction.

"Zimborders Consortium in partnership with the Government ar upgrading Sadc's busiest inland port of entry at a cost of US$300 million under 12-and-a-half-years Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) concession. The works are being carried out in three phases, which include the freight terminal (Phase 1) the bus terminal (Phase 2) and the light vehicles terminal (Phase 3).

Zimborders Consortium chief executive officer Mr Francois Diedrechsen said they had moved to phase two after successfully completing the new freight terminal which opened to traffic last month." Phase 2 focuses on the bus terminal and the work is hoped to be completed by mid-May 2022.

COMESA and Zimbabwe have signed an agreement that sub-delegates the implementation of Coordinated Border Management activities, Trade and Transport Facilitation program at the Chirundu border post. The sub-delegated activities are worth Euro 4.1 million to support the upgrading of priority cross-border infrastructure and equipment at the Chirundu border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. This is part of the EUR 48 million Trade Facilitation Programme (TFP), financed under the 11th European Development Fund (11 EDF) from the European Union (EU) to COMESA.

RMB’s $300m Beitbridge border post modernisation project, which recently reached a financial close, involved the upgrade and rehabilitation of the Zimbabwean side of the Beitbridge border post, under a 17-and-a-half-year concession granted by the Zimbabwean government to La Frontiere. RMB has acted as financial adviser to La Frontiere since 2018, and later took on the roles of joint mandated lead arranger and hedging bank for the project. We partnered with five other financial institutions in structuring the transaction.

The government has set aside about RTGS$4 million for the refurbishment of the Binga airstrip to improve accessibility to the district and facilitate smooth tourism business. Despite lacking infrastructure, Binga is one of the rich districts in terms of natural resources with the potential to attract thousands of tourists.
