Telemedicine is something we have been pushing for. There was a bit of resistance from our governing bodies in the medical sector to introduce telemedicine before COVID-19, but with the coming of the COVID-19 pandemic, I think they now saw that there is a very big role for telemedicine to play. They started to appreciate it and the sector allowed us access to telemedicine. This is something we need to invest in”, said Dr. Matara (ZADHR) Secretary-General. He noted that there was a trial held in Nyanga Manicaland Province in Zimbabwe, which proved to be successful in offering telemedicine services to rural communities.

Impilo Electronic Health Record System Deployed

Cabinet reports that the Impilo Electronic Health Record System was deployed to 100 of the targetted 250 new sites.

THE Ministry of Health and Child Care has come up with an electronic health system, called Impilo, which is set to help in the effective monitoring and tracking of patients countrywide, while a nationwide project for broadband connectivity in the country’s top 350 health facilities has also been launched. Impilo will initially be deployed at five Central Hospitals, seven Provincial Hospitals, 30 District Hospitals, and 384 Clinics across the country.

Nurse e-recruitment begins

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has started to receive online applications from aspiring nurses countrywide. Applications are being submitted using the Health Ministry’s electronic platform hh://mohcc.go.zw with August 31, 2019 being the cut-off date. The cost of accessing the electronic application form is RTGS$10 payable to MoHCC’s merchant code 334085 (no additional payments are required as this the only fee to be paid).
