The exercise for the issuance of title deeds in Caledonia’s Phases 1 to 3 is ongoing, and 3 600 beneficiaries have paid title processing fees. In Epworth, 738 beneficiaries have also been shortlisted for the issuance of title deeds.

Government mapping urban settlements against approved layout plans in order to pave way for the issuance of title deeds to deserving beneficiaries. The mapping of Caledonia, Hopley, Saturday Retreat, Cowdray Park, Gimboki (Mutare), Karoi and Victoria Ranch (Masvingo) has been completed, while the mapping of Eyrecourt Farm is underway. The exercise to process title deeds for Caledonia is on course, with 7 523 beneficiaries being targeted under Phases 1 to 3, and 925 stand owners have started the process of acquiring title deeds for their properties. Government is using new technology spearheaded by the Zimbabwe National Geo-Spatial Agency (ZINGSA), in order to expedite the mapping exercise and, therefore, the issuance of title deeds. The issuance will proceed simultaneously with provision of basic infrastructure and services.

The Government of Zimbabwe has begun awarding title deeds to residents of informal urban settlements, with people in Caledonia, Harare, becoming the first to benefit following the completion of aerial mapping of the area. Over 3000 people are expecting title documents to their homes that have been judged appropriate for permanent settlement.

THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, National Prosecuting Authority and Zimbabwe Republic Police must investigate all officers, past and present, involved or connected with management of urban state land, the Lands Commission has said in its inquiry report. The commission also recommended that there must be a lifestyle audit on all the officers who were involved allocation, planning, valuations, survey, and allocation of commonage, creation and transfer of title) since 2005 amid claims of abuse of office, receiving bribes, and general corrupt conduct.

ASPINDALE Park property developers have started preparatory work for the development and regularisation of 2 600 residential stands covering an area of 180 hectares in Marimba Park, an area that had been parcelled out by cooperatives before it was returned to its rightful owners by Government. The property development firm has since taken over the area after getting a mandate and approval from the Ministry of Local Government Public Works and National Housing.
