Zimbabweans living in the United Kingdom have submitted at least 117 applications for farmland, as the diaspora community angles for opportunities in the agriculture sector. Zimbabwe’s Embassy in the United Kingdom has been assisting locals in that country to invest in various sectors of the economy. The UK Diaspora Agriculture Engagement Cluster registered interest in A2 farms after a land audit identified land for distribution in various provinces. In a 2020 Independence commemorations message for Zimbabweans in the diaspora, Zanu-PF secretary for commissariat Cde Victor Matemadanda urged the nationals to take up land and contribute towards economic recovery

GOVERNMENT has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zimbabwean nationals living in the diaspora which will see them holding various activities in the country next month coinciding with the 40th independence commemorations.
The number of Zimbabweans that have left the country is estimated at more than three million. While diasporans may not want to return home, the majority still wish to make a difference by contributing to the economy in the form of remittances, skills and technology transfer, establishing networks and connections as well investing in business ventures locally.

The Government of Zimbabwe has stepped up efforts for coordinated prioritization of issues affecting Zimbabweans resident outside the country by establishing a multi-sectoral taskforce. The task force which comprises twenty government institutions had its initial meeting in Harare on the 5th of February 2019 where its objectives and mandate among other related issues were deliberated on.

The Government started working on a Diaspora Strategy aimed at creating ease access, cooperation and a conducive investment environment for thousands of Zimbabweans living abroad, as the country’s reengagement process goes into overdrive. Addressing members of the country’s Diaspora community here yesterday, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive Mrs Rita Likukuma said the Diaspora Strategy, which seeks to among other things, make it easy for Diasporans to access home and invest, while ring-fencing their investments, will unlock value from Zimbabweans living abroad.

Zimbabwe’s bid to reach out to the country’s diaspora community in the United Kingdom entered its last leg on Wednesday night in Birmingham with Minister of Environment, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Priscah Mupfumira encouraging Zimbabweans to take part in the development and joint venture initiatives back home.

Government launched video conferencing equipment from the International Organisation of Migration that will facilitate interaction between Harare and Zimbabweans living in foreign countries on how they can contribute towards the social and economic development of the country.
